Climate Change

PNM Resources was an early supporter of comprehensive federal climate change legislation and believes climate change is the greatest environmental, economic and quality of life issue of our time.

We support federal legislation that would:

• significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions over time,


• be mandatory and economy wide in nature,


• include cap and trade as a core element,


• include cost containment protections to minimize increased costs for consumers and allow energy companies to continue providing reliable, affordable service, and


• be market-based to spur innovation and investment in clean energy technologies.

PNM Resources advocates for federal legislation through alliances with the Edison Electric Institute, the organization of investor-owned utilities, and the U.S. Climate Action Partnership, of which we are a founding member. PNM Resources also is a member of Combat Climate Change, a global consortium of companies working on initiatives to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions to acceptable levels as rapidly as possible.
